This morning, whilst adhering to my usual Sunday morning ritual, of coffee in bed and a scroll through Instagram and Twitter, I stumbled upon a tweet from Hello Miss Jordan, enticing me to follow her on something called ‘Vero’. Whilst continuing to scroll, I came across more and more tweets discussing the latest social media craze. Thinking I’d stumbled across something brand new and totally ground breaking, I asked my boyfriend ‘have you seen this new app thingy?’ Turns out he’s been on it for weeks! so god knows where I’ve been, under a proverbial rock, I suppose.
Not wanting to miss the hype, I decided to get on board and quickly downloaded the app. After signing up and setting my profile picture and bio, I had a quick play around and within minutes id gotten the hang of things. The app utilises hashtags in a similar way to Instagram, but instead of only being able to post images and short clips of video, you can post pretty much anything, much like twitter, but with the addition of music and even books. My first post was a link to one of the articles on my blog, incorporating one of my favourite images, with a caption and of course millions of hashtags, it looks as though the limit is 30, the same as Instagram. Within minutes I had followers, likes, comments and even the engagement on my blog had increased. Continuing to post all morning, has so far gained me two new Instagram followers, some great new blogs to follow and an abundance of new connections, which is great.
Your feed looks a lot like Instagram and is laid out in a grid format and at the moment posts appear to be displayed in chronological order! Yes, you heard me correctly CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER! The interface is very easy to use and on the main page, trending hashtags are displayed, much like on twitter. This app seems to have taken the best bits of our favourite social media platforms and shoved them all into one handy dandy app. This app is great if you’re an ‘influencer’ (Im still not fully on board with that term) and I’ll certainly be incorporating it into the arsenal of apps that I use to be social, whilst also promoting my blog. Its free to download and super easy to use, id highly suggest you check it out.
Ive noticed a few bugs today, I couldn’t like or comment on anything for a while, but like with all new apps, there are always bound to be some issues in the early stages, especially with todays influx of new users. Looking at Vero’s Twitter feed, it looks as though they have been on the case this morning, ironing out all of the little kinks.
Im excited to see if Vero takes off, with all of the algorithm issues we’ve been encountering with Instagram, I for one am happy that there is something new out there, to give the rest of us a fighting chance. It feels as though Instagram is only here for the big money making bloggers and the rest of us are being pushed to one side, which, quite frankly, I’m sick of, I am fully supportive of a new social media platform.
Viva la Vero!
